Probably every sonographer relies to some extent on standards that facilitate the interpretation of measurable image features. Measurements are one of many criteria for evaluating internal organs and are certainly not a substitute for a broader, in-depth image analysis. However, when taking a measurement is indicated, it is helpful to be able to compare it with reliably developed standards. The USG Practice Ultrasound Standards are one of many ideas we are implementing to make life easier for those working in veterinary ultrasound.
What are our standards?
- Critically compiled. The standards presented here are an extract of knowledge from analyzed scientific publications.
- Verifiable. Each standard cited here is accompanied by a link to the source from which it originates. If you have any doubts, we encourage you to explore the linked publications.
- Presented in a broader context. Most norms represent an attempt to characterize a population of healthy patients. We strive to convey this characterization as accurately as possible, which is why we present the norms in a broader context that includes basic statistical measures. Details on how to interpret the norms can be found here.
- Endless. This project is open-ended, and we’re still working on it. Knowledge evolves, and so do our standards.
- Free. We love sharing knowledge, and in this project, we do it for free.
