Probably every ultrasonographer uses reference values to some extent, as they facilitate the interpretation of measurable image features. Measurements are one of many criteria used to assess internal organs and are certainly not a substitute for a broader, thorough image analysis. However, when a measurement is indicated, it is useful to be able to compare it with reliably developed reference values. USG Practice Ultrasound Reference Values are one of our many initiatives aimed at making life easier for those involved in veterinary ultrasonography.
What are our reference values?
- Critically appraised. The reference values presented here are an extract of knowledge derived from the analysis of scientific publications.
- Verifiable. Each reference value cited here is accompanied by a link to the source from which it originates. In case of any doubts, we encourage you to explore the linked publications.
- Presented in a broader context. Most reference values represent an attempt to characterize a population of healthy patients. We aim to reflect this characterization as accurately as possible; therefore, the reference values are presented in a broader context, including basic statistical measures. Details on how these reference values should be read are provided here.
- Open-ended. This project is ongoing and we are continuously working on it. Knowledge evolves, and our reference values evolve with it.
- Free of charge. We love sharing knowledge, and in this project we do so free of charge.
